THE PRESENTERS

Ellen S. Jaffe writes poetry, fiction, and plays for young people and adults.  Her y/a novel "Feast of Lights" won the Moonbeam Gold Medal Award in 2007 for Multi-Cultural Fiction.  She has received several grants for teaching and for artists-in-education from the Ontario Arts Council,  works with Learning/Living Through the Arts, and has taught in schools from inner-city Toronto to Moose Factory in Northern Ontario. She has judged several writing contests for young people.  Ellen is currently working on a second young-adult novel and on a collection of poetry to be published by Guernica Editions in 2014.  She likes to help each person find his or her own voice in writing, and learn to enjoy playing with words.

We will explore ways to turn outer and inner experiences into
meaningful poems. You will find ways to develop your own voice,
whether in form or free verse.  And we’ll see how writing can be fun, too!
All writers welcome, including those who have never written a poem before! You are never too young or too old to write poetry.

Jenny Panda is a writer and illustrator of children’s literature. She taught in elementary schools in England and Halton for 34 years with an emphasis on creativity in all subject areas especially Art, Language Arts and Computers.  An executive member of the Fine Arts Society of Milton, her artwork can be viewed in many art shows in and around the area. She is the web administrator of www.fasm.ca and her own site: www.jenny.thepandas.ca. Jenny has published several books for children and enjoys visiting schools to show her artwork and to read from her novels and poetry.

ARTFUL POETRY
Have fun exploring a variety of Art and Poetry activities. In this workshop art will flow from poetry and poetry will flow from art.

Honey Novick, an award-winning poet and singer who has performed in Carnegie Recital Hall, NYC; the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; and the Concert for World Peace at Seibu Lions’ Stadium, Tokyo, Japan. She is artist in residence with Friendly Spike Theatre Band and  City of Toronto 2012 ACE Award winner. Her book "Ruminations of a Fractured Diamond" was published by lyricalmyrical.

Using poetry, sounds, songs, ideas, texts & pictographs, students get a chance to explore language, syntax, vocabulary and connection to poetry in an environment that’s fun, accessible, safe and “inspiriting.”
